About Anita
Anita is a retired public school educator. She taught middle school science in NY and ME and is the 2004 recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. She worked at the Maine Department of Education for a dozen years and concluded her last 8 years in public education as an Assistant Superintendent of Schools. Anita has served on several boards of directors, including the Council of State Science Supervisors, the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance, and the Maine Science Teachers Association. Anita formerly served as the Chair of the TBE Hebrew School Committee and on the TBE Board of Directors. She and her husband (Ben Marcus) have been members of Temple Beth El for over 30 years.
Anita and Ben live in Cumberland, Maine with their cats, sheep, goat and chickens. She can often be found weaving on one of her looms or spinning and knitting fiber. Every Wednesday she takes her grandson, Simon, to Hebrew school at Temple Emunah in Lexington MA. Anita also enjoys biking, hiking, gardening, traveling and spending time with her children (Hannah and Nathan) and their families.
