About Steve

Steve is a pediatric hematologist-oncologist who co-founded and served as CEO and Medical Director of the Maine Children’s Cancer Program from 1981-1994. He served as a senior healthcare consultant for two national firms (Stroudwater Associates from 1998-2003 and The Bard Group from 2003-2007) before launching his current independent consulting practice, exăgoMD, LLC in late 2007 to focus exclusively on leadership strategy, structures, and effectiveness in healthcare. His broad healthcare and general consulting experience spans leadership effectiveness, strategy and business planning, clinical program and service line development, clinical quality and patient safety, organizational performance improvement, medical staff affairs, physician-executive relations, conflict resolution, licensure and regulation, rural healthcare policy development, managed care operations, and behavioral health. But more recently he has been working on cooking, improving his challah baking, struggling to learn pottery, and seeing as much as he can of his small flock of grandchildren.

Steve and his wife Fran live in Cape Elizabeth and have been members of Temple Beth El for over 25 years. They have 2 grown children (Zach and Arielle) who received their Jewish education at TBE. Arielle went on to make aliyah and lived in Israel for 10 years. Between them there are now 3 grandchildren (with one on the way) all living in the greater Boston area.
