TBE Library Mission

The mission of the library is to share print and non-print resources with its community on aspects of Jewish life not easily located in public libraries. The library seeks to offer guidance to the perplexed as well as comfort, wisdom, and joy from Talmudic books through contemporary thought and literature. The library’s role is to complement the warmth and learning that our community brings with it when it enters the synagogue for prayer, fellowship, and consolation.  We have resources available for children, teens, and adults.

Circulation Policy:

THE library collection is available for loan, with the exception of reference books, by members of TBE, as well as non-members who provide their contact information.  Reference books may be borrowed, in some cases, with permission of the Head of the Library Committee.  Parents are responsible for any books checked out by their children.

MATERIALS may be checked out for two weeks, and renewed twice.  Additional renewals are at the discretion of the Librarian. Items on reserve may not be renewed. Patrons may borrow up to 5 items at a time.

OVERDUE fines are not charged, however we ask that all borrowers respect the library policies and return books in a timely manner. Donations to the Library Fund in lieu of fines are welcome. Some of the books in the library are quite old and may be out of print and unavailable for replacement.  If an item is lost or damaged beyond repair, we ask that patrons either replace any lost items with a new copy of the item, or provide the funds for the item to be replaced. The Head of the Library Committee will determine the cost of a replacement item.

OVERDUE notices will be emailed and/or mailed.  In addition phone calls will be made to borrowers as needed.  If a borrower says an items has been returned, the item will be marked “claimed returned”, and will no longer be the responsibility of the patron.

AT the discretion of the Library Committee, borrowing privileges may be suspended if a patron repeatedly loses, damages, or fails to return library materials.  Privileges may also be suspended if a patron repeatedly claims that items have been returned but have not been received back from the patron.
