It is at times of great joy and great sorrow that we look for the embrace of our community. Temple Beth El's clergy, staff, and congregants would like to support you in your loss. To begin planning for a funeral, you will need to contact the Temple office and a funeral home. The Rabbi and Cemetery Committee recommend both The Jewish Funeral Home (207-774-3733) and Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home (207-775-3763) for your family to choose from. Both are accustomed to the Jewish rituals that follow a death. Temple staff will work closely with your funeral home and cemetery to coordinate the services and burial which typically take place 2 days after the death. Our clergy will talk with you about the funeral service and arrange shiva services as you desire. Temple Beth El clergy are available to perform funerals for members and their parents and children (some expenses apply in the case of member's parents). Our clergy cannot guarantee their availability for non-member funerals. For information about fees associated with funeral services and burial, and how those fees apply to members and non-members, please see the documents below.
