Sisterhood is a spiritual organization for contemporary women.

Their goal is to strengthen traditional Conservative Judaism by:

  • Furthering the spiritual, ethical and cultural interests of the congregation
  • Advancing Jewish education among its members and their families
  • Strengthening the religious lives of our Temple community
  • Contributing to make our Temple a more comfortable and beautiful environment  in which to worship

Sisterhood:

  • Supports spiritual and educational programs offered to Temple members throughout the year
  • Operates a well-stocked gift shop of Judaica, including books, ceremonial articles, holiday items, baby gifts, Bar/Bat Mitzvah gifts, and special order items - a one-stop shop for multiple gift needs.
  • Provides the Temple kitchen with cooking utensils, dishes, tablecloths, small appliances and other kitchen items as needed
  • Supports our Temple youth and the Hebrew School by:
...Funding the B'nai Mitzvah Class for students and parents
...Providing Siddurim for 3rd grade students
...Presenting Bibles (Tanakh) to all B'nai Mitzvah
  • Publishes a Roll of Remembrance each year which not only provides congregants a meaningful way to remember loved ones at Yom Kippur, but also serves as a source of funding for Sisterhood activities
  • Provides refreshments for Friday night Oneg and Saturday morning Kiddush
  • Sponsors an annual food drive for distribution to a local food bank
  • Supports the Temple library
  • Subsidizes Sisterhood members and/or their children who are interested in attending seminars, workshops, trips to Israel and other related Jewish educational experiences

Additionally, in 2009 Sisterhood:

  • Purchased 100 new tallit in various sizes for use by Temple members during services
  • Made a one-time donation of $5,000 to support the newly structured Resident Scholar Program

Any woman who is in agreement with the goals enumerated above, and who is interested in furthering the purposes of Sisterhood, shall be eligible for membership upon payment of dues.

Dues are $18.00 per year, $12 for seniors (age 62 or over).  Checks should be made payable to Temple Beth El Sisterhood.
